Yes Scotland Response: With 50 days to go until the referendum, do the public have enough information to decide how to vote?​

People are continuing to engage with the referendum debate and levels of knowledge are increasing. This is good for Yes because we know that the more people know about independence, the more likely they are to vote Yes.

That doesn’t mean that everyone will know everything, but it does suggest that most people will have sufficient understanding by the time the vote takes place. For the Yes campaign, this will be focused on two key ideas. First, that Scotland is one of the wealthiest nations on the planet and second, there’s a whole lot more we could be doing with Scotland’s wealth to make life better for the people who live here. If people in Scotland engage with both these points, then we are confident Yes will win.

Over the remaining weeks we’ll be highlighting key information that underpins these arguments. For example, the analysis from the Financial Times which shows that Scotland is one of the top twenty wealthiest nations in the world - ahead of France, Italy and the UK - and that with independence we could “expect to start with healthier state finances than the rest of the UK”.

People in Scotland can choose independence with confidence, knowing that with our underlying economic strengths, and strong prospects for the future in industries like renewables, we are exceptionally well placed for the future.

In “Scotland’s Future”, we have the most detailed blueprint for independence ever produced. It contains many examples of how we can use our wealth better to deliver more for people in Scotland. We also have a range of proposals set out by Green Yes, the Commonweal, N56 and even Labour’s most recent policy prospectus.

Voters are being offered a tangible vision of the kind of Scotland we can create, with ideas for a fairer and more prosperous society. We are engaging more and more with people about what a Yes means for them. Alongside building knowledge about Scotland’s wealth, therefore, we will be promoting the policies that can make life better for households and individuals across the country.

We have an incredible opportunity here in Scotland to determine our own future. With a simple cross on the ballot paper we can choose a new path forward. That is as much about ambition and vision as anything else, but alongside this we are determined people go to the polls with the information they need to say Yes.
